Wanda and Vision take us back to old family sitcoms in the first two episodes of 'WandaVision'

It is finally upon us. Marvel is finally releasing new material. This is exactly what fans need after the disastrous of a year of 2020. Granted we weren't getting a whole lot of new footage in 2020, but the fact that Black Widow was delayed for over a year was enough to get any fan upset. 2021 is going to have quite the line up for Marvel with WandaVision kicking it off. The show returns Paul Bettany as Vision and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. The show is going to pay homage to all the classic sitcoms and they do it in a way that is not over the top (thank God). The first two shows may be a little of slow going for some fans that expect a lot of action, but give it time. Marvel has done well at connecting all the dots. Let's not lose hope.

But let's get to the show.

WandaVision stars Wanda Maximoff and Vision as they are living their life like famous sitcoms. The first episode looked to pay homage to Leave it to Beaver with a touch of I Love Lucy. Wanda and Vision are trying to figure out why there is a heart over August 23rd.

Let's start with the date. If you have been a fan of Marvel from the beginning, you know that they don't do things randomly. The date August 23rd is significant, but in what way? Some people are theorizing that it is a tribute to the fact that there are 23 Marvel movies that have been released thus far (but I don't think this is the case because Black Widow would have been released before this show making that movie 24). Some other fans, believe that it has to do with The Avengers comic book #238 where Vision is working with Captain Marvel on a mission. I think that this is a stretch as well, but it's also possible that the significance is foreshadowing for something to come out.

By the end of the episode Vision and Wanda are able to succeed in the mission of the dinner but there is a hiccup. Vision's boss Mr. Hart starts choking on his food and no one does anything. This of course is strange because his wife just continues to laugh it off and Mr. Hart isn't saved until Wanda tells Vision to save him.

The second episode to seem to have a lot of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie references. We get to see a scene where there is a strange noise outside and Vision gets scared instead of protecting Wanda. It was very reminiscent of how Darren was on Bewitched. The couple are using magic to help with a fundraiser 'FOR THE KIDS'. In this show we meet Geraldine, who has already been confirmed is Monica Rambeau (Maria's daughter from Captain Marvel). While it was announced ahead of time, I think it would have been better to have that be a surprise during the show.

As the show comes to an end, color is now introduced and it's set up that we are going to be in color from here on out. It looks to me as if we are moving to a new decade of sitcoms with each episode and it will be fun to see where it goes from here.

This is obviously not 'real' but a fantasy of something that is going on in a subconscious somewhere. I think that the bigger picture is that Wanda is being tortured or something and whoever is looking for information is using subliminal messages to get to her. In her subconscious, she would have loved to be with Vision in a happy time like this. I believe that we are in Wanda's mind because she seems to have the control and it's around her that things 'break' from the story.

There is a connection between Agnes (Kathryn Hann - who steals every scene she is) and her importance in Wanda's subconscious. Is she the one looking for information? Or does she have a significant role Wanda's life before we met her? The introduction to Geraldine/Monica also is strange because she seems to be half 'in' the concept and half 'out' of it. She is questioning the head of the fundraiser committee but then completely confused how she got to the magic box.

Either way, the show is off to a great start and I cannot wait to see what we have in store for us next.

Wanda is struggling to keep control in episode 7 of 'WandaVision'

If you are not already hooked on Marvel’s new TV show on Disney+ WandaVision then this week’s episode will certainly have you hook, line, and sinker. This week’s show is titled ‘Breaking the Fourth Wall’ and in some ways it breaks more walls then that. The show hits the 2000s and Modern Family seems to be the theme with some splashes of other sitcoms from the 2000s. I really enjoyed the commentary that Wanda and Vision have when they are talking to the camera. The glances and the 'knowing stare' from Vision are completely spot on.  Like the other episodes, this one is jam-packed with information so you need to make sure you are paying attention. Wanda is slowly but surely losing control of the Hex. The kids are noticing this and want to help but Wanda just thinks relaxing will help (not likely). In the reality part of the show, we discover that Hayward is trying to get Vision back so he can use him as a weapon (no surprise there). Monica and Jimmy meet with her friend (...

Review: 'Dominik' by Sawyer Bennett - Can Dominik tame Willow's wild heart?

In the 6th book of the series, Dominik takes the lead as he tries to get Willow out of his thoughts, but that proves more difficult the more time he spends with her. Willow doesn't want to tie herself down to this man, but the more she fights, the harder she falls. When you do book series like this, it's hard to like every single one. Especially when you unintentionally compare the books with one another. I had a hard time liking the relationship with Dominik and Willow. Perhaps its that we didn't really get to see the beginning (you hear about it in other books) or maybe I just didn't like the way that they are together. It just didn't tickle my fancy. They didn't have that 'it' factor that separates the story from others. I did enjoy the cat and mouse game that Willow was playing with Dominik. That part was entertaining. See a man of Dominik stature get frustrated and make moves that I am sure are out of his character. But even that got old aft...
